Oh how lovely to see Troy again, and looking so well.

I am so glad he has found such a wonderful home with you, and you are having lots of fun with him.

Best wishes,

Hi Julia

Wow what a handsome boy he is.. he looks gorgeous...

Ive always fancied a coloured horse,, well in some respects i have with saf,, she was a dapple grey but has gone a lot lighter now and being a typical mare she is usually covered in stable stains,, yuk,, so you could say she is coloured of sorts

Thank you Sarah and Lisa for your comments.
I think he looks lovely too, but then I'm a bit biased!
He's got the dentist coming tomorrow so let's hope he remains his usual good self!
Best wishes,
Julia (and Troy)

Julia,

He is a smasher - not too many white bits to clean either!

Hello all,
Yes, Troy was really good for the dentist. Thanks.
This was Troy last weekend, out on a hack with me! He's now quite a wooly black boy in his winter coat. The white bits do still get dirty.
Regards,
Julia

Hi Sarah and all,

Thanks for all your kind comments. He's been a real smasher! :D
Lia certainly did a good job matching not only me and Troy but also my hubbie and him. He is our first horse and I've only been riding about 2 years, so am still quite novicey! Troy is calm and a thoroughly good boy on the ground aswell as ridden but he is far from a plod and is very willing to move up the gears, but this has meant he is willing in his lessons and gives a lovely good canter up the bridleways (weather permitting!). He is a lot of fun! I am a very lucky girl! :D
Oh dear, just looked out the window and it's snowing again. Mucking out beckons so I'll sign off. Hope it clears for tomorrow as we have our weekly lesson, luckily we do have acccess to an indoor school but we both prefer the outdoors!
Best wishes to all,
Julia (and Troy)

Julia,

Which bit of Derbyshire are you from? It looks beautiful! Have done some walking in that area but all the bits I remember were very peaty.

He is a real credit to you for this time of year, clean, fit and glossy. Why do I always get mud monsters?!

Regards,

Bev (and two mud monsters; Rosie and Merlin) x

Hi Bev,

We live in Dronfield between Sheffield and Chesterfield not too far (by car) from the Peak District. There is good hacking nearby but first you have to negotiate some quite busy roads with buses and large lorries which can be a bit scarry! I too go out with husband walking by the side and often if we're out for a while we swap half way round (Troy, bless him, never complains) but I do also venture out on my own during the week when I'm off work. My hubbie is a very confident rider and happily goes out on his own but he prefers me along to chat to. What we really need is another horse! Bobby looks like a good size for Tony!

Let's hope for good weather for your first hacks out on Rosie.
Best wishes,
Julia (and Troy)

Hi all,

Back to my own post, instead of hogging others and a little update on Troy's little blip! (Talked about on Rosie's bit)

Well, our lesson went very well. I did lunge him first for about 10mins and had a chat with my instructor who has been great with us and she has suggested reducing his feed a little and the lunging beforehand if he feels a little fresh. We also managed to get out hacking with another horse over the weekend and he was very good. In fact he is much less spooky than most of the horses around the yard and during the rides I often lead others past skips and flapping plastic!

I also need to listen to him! I knew he was "on his toes" that day so I should have just stuck to walking. I will know next time! We've been out everyday (hacking or in the school) since and he definitely seems back to his usual self. I suppose all horses can have a bit of an off day.

He is moulting quite a bit at the moment and loves a really good brush and scratch and has become even more affectionate, grooming me (thankfully gently) back. It's been so lovely to see him recently in the field without a rug and the sun shining on his back (at least until he's rolled and caked himself in mud!). But I do love to see him roll :D

Tony (my hubbie) is off tomorrow so hopefully Troy will get another nice hack. I'm not jealous  !

Enjoy the sun while it lasts,
Best wishes,

Julia and Troy

Hi Julia,

Glad to hear that you are having fun with Troy again and he is back to his normal chilled self.
The feeding issue is sometimes deceptive, and I tend to give way too much feed if I am feeling the cold. I am sure that horses do not notice the temperature in the same way that humans do, although constant rain does seem get them down.
I love watching my two roll - especially if they grunt with pleasure as they are waving their legs in the air. It almost makes scraping the mud off them worthwhile!

Happy hacking,

Bev

Lovely pic Julia - he loves being given a good scratch, and has obviously formed a wonderful bond with you - so lovely to see him so happy. :)
